Convince me, Apple, convince me to keep developing for this platform when you are continually pushing me away. How can I justify putting any more work towards any iPhone app when your review process is so thoroughly broken?
In a footnote to Amazon’s 2008 letter to shareholders, Jeff Bezos related this moment of Zen:
At a fulfillment center recently, one of our Kaizen experts asked me, “I’m in favor of a clean fulfillment center, but why are you cleaning? Why don’t you eliminate the source of dirt?” I felt like the Karate Kid.
It may [...]

We're actually sort of surprised that we haven't seen many more iPod dock / USB hub / card reader hybrids, but the Dexim MHub here is the only one we can recall seeing apart from the Griffin Simplifi. At a steep $70, it's certainly not the cheapest way to add three USB ports and an SD card reader, but it certainly does look nice. Should be on sale now.

For a while now, we've been tracking a number of companies who are hard at work trying to build the ultimate social networking desktop app. We've talked about TweetDeck, Twhirl / Seesmic Desktop, AlertThingy, and there are many more especially if you also include the ones that focus only on Twitter (Tweetie, Nambu, Twitterific, etc.).
Another horse in this race that barely gets a mention is Sobees, probably in big part because of the fact it's only available for Windows users (with the latest .NET framework, moreover), although it doesn't really deserve to be below the radar ...
Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Desktops, Gaming, Hardware, iTS, Rumors, Software, iTunes, App Store I think the whole "Apple buying Twitter" rumor floating around is about as much of a crock as the "Apple buying EA" one. But I give slightly more credence to this conclusion: that, despite the painful experience of Pippin, Apple is once again putting together a game console. Why? Let the evidence from BNET convince you. First, Apple is picking up game execs and console chip makers left and right. Second is a whole slew of recent patents, for everything from mixing up media and game environments ...
There’s always an urge to declare a major new player in search as a “Google killer” because of its unique approach to the space, its celebrated founding team, or copious amounts of industry hype. Wolfram Alpha has a bit of all of these elements working for it, though it’s significantly different than other recent attempts to dethrone Google, such as Cuil, which fell flat on its face on launch day, or Powerset, which was acquired by Microsoft before ever really getting a chance to prove itself as a commercially viable product. The first key thing to be aware ...
The realm of entrepreneurship and venture capital has been changing in recent years. While many Web entrepreneurs during the late 1990s and mid 2000s were able raise millions in venture capital to fund their startup, it’s not so easy today. With a down economy and tighter budgets, even venture capital has had to innovate. This is where SproutBox comes into play. Instead of offering cash in return for an equity stake in a startup, SproutBox is offering programming, business development, accounting, and HR services equivalent to $250,000. Is Sproutbox the future of venture capital? We can’t say ...
Gmail was globally down for about 20 minutes this morning. It has suffered a longer outage in February and then again in March, and each time I’ve used Twitter, not Google Search, to find out whether the problem is on my end only or whether it’s affecting everyone. And, sure enough, Twitter is abuzz about Gmail today, which is already a trending topic. But, as always, it’s impossible to get any additional information - except for the simple “Gmail is down” from the hundreds of tweets that keep piling every minute. Twitter search is great for finding out ...
This post is part of Mashable’s Spark of Genius series, which highlights a unique feature of startups. If you would like to have your startup considered for inclusion, please see the details here. The series is made possible by Microsoft BizSpark. Name: MatterMeter Quick Pitch: MatterMeter.com is the world’s first social opinion network. Genius Idea: There are plenty of ways to measure influence, especially in social media – number of connections, number of blog subscribers, Twitter followers, etc, but MatterMeter really gets to the heart of the issue with the question it poses to users: “If [insert person ...
Ever since Google acquired FeedBurner, complaints from bloggers have been plentiful, both in terms of lagging functionality and subpar ad revenue as Google has transitioned the product to AdSense for Feeds. Earlier this year, the FeedBurner team responded to much of this criticism in an in-depth interview with Mashable, offering some explanation of publisher issues and providing guidance as to what can be expected from the product going forward. This week, they’ve started testing new ad units with select publishers in hopes of increasing revenue. As opposed to a single graphical ad attached to a story within the feed ...
Like a lot of BlackBerry users, I have TwitterBerry for keeping up with Twitter and Facebook’s native BlackBerry application for checking my friends’ statuses, uploading photos, and making wall posts on the social network. While both of these applications are fairly good at keeping up with these two sites from your mobile, what I’ve longed for is an application that combines both in one interface – much like TweetDeck and Seesmic Desktop do on the desktop. Enter SocialScope, a new BlackBerry application (in private beta) that looks to deliver this, and does a fairly impressive job. Twitter and Facebook ...
If this looks vaguely familiar, that's because it likely is -- we suspect this image out of Boy Genius Report is a newer (or older) render of the "G1 v2" called out on the recently-leaked Android roadmap out of T-Mobile. It'd make sense -- by October, when this is allegedly hitting retail for $150-ish, the G1 will be getting long in the tooth. What's more, this sucker's clearly running Android, and it's a whole hell of a lot better-looking. More on this as it develops, of course, but in the meantime, that myTouch is looking just a ...
Sure, the MPAA won't be happy that you're not just videotaping your TV, but the Mac users out there still looking for some real-time SD recording action might want to check out Elgato's Video Capture box. Nothing too fancy here, just RCA / S-Video / SCART input and some software to trim clips and export to H.264 and MPEG-4, but it could be just the ticket if you've got a stack of VHS tapes or something. Out in Europe now for €100 ($134), we'll let you know when it comes Stateside.

Almost immediately following Twitter coming back from a planned downtime this afternoon, co-founder and current Chairman Jack Dorsey sent out a tweet letting his followers know that he was, "Getting ready to embark on something new and entirely different. Excited!" Dorsey is getting ready to launch his next startup, he's confirmed to us. As the guy who actually invented Twitter, this is notable.
Though Dorsey declined to comment on what his new startup is right now, we hear from a source knowledgeable about the new company that it's code-named Squirrel. Here's what else we know so far ...
During the past several months, a war has been brewing between Twitter apps for the iPhone. But it's been largely two-sided. You were either in the Twitterfon camp or the Tweetie camp. And if you were using any other app, it was only because you didn't know any better. But with the release of Twitterrific 2.0 [iTunes link] for the iPhone, a new player has entered the fray.
Twitterrific was one of the original iPhone Twitter apps. And for a while it was the most popular one. But when newer apps like the Twinkle, Tweetsville and then ...
Not sure what move to add to your Netflix queue next? The DVD rental company has updated its recomendation engine in an effort to serve up better movie suggestions. "We're pleased to announce that we have improved the way we predict the movies you're going to love," Netflix wrote in a blog post. "We've deployed a new algorithm that allows us to make more accurate guesses at how much our members will enjoy each movie in our the vast Netflix catalog." The changes are the brainchild of Netflix Prize contestants, an ongoing contest intended to improve movie ...
