Socialbrowse | What is Social Browsing?
Social browsing is a loosely defined phrase that means many things to different people. Because of the confusion about what social browsing is, people have strongly differing opinions about its relevance. Some think that social browsing is nothing new, others believe it will be the next big thing, while still others believe that social browsing is a market doomed to fail. To make predictions about the success of the social browsing market, you must first be able to accurately define it. To be considered social browsing, a product must contain at minimum the following prerequisites: 1) Portable |

Either Fox News Had Their Twitter Account Hacked, Or Bill O...
My guess is this has nothing to do with the phishing attacks that started on Twitter a couple of days ago. But a few minutes ago the official Fox News Twitter account posted "Breaking: Bill O Riley is gay" (referring to the host of the popular Fox show O'Reilly Factor), right after a legitimate message about making turkey lettuce wraps.
My guess is they're just finding out about it now, and realizing their password, which was probably "password," has been changed. Twitter will promptly restore the account to its rightful owners, I'm sure. But here's my ... |

Radiohead's In Rainbows, another high-profile album which was available for free for a limited time in late 2007, ended the year just outside of Amazon's Top 10 for 2008. Why Pay for Free Music?

2009: Products I Can't Live Without
At the beginning of each year I traditionally publish a list of my favorite startups and products. This is the fourth year I've done this - previous lists: 2006, 2007, 2008. You guys get to pick the winners of the Crunchies - this list is all mine.
This is a list of the products I tend to use daily. Some are for work (Wordpress, Delicious, Zoho, etc.), some are for fun (MySpace Music, Hulu, etc), and some are useful for both (Digg, Skype, YouTube, etc.). But I use most of them every day, or nearly every day, and I would not ... |

Geo-Engineer Planet-Cooler Using Oceans : CleanTechnica
Bailing out the entire human race might turn out to be cheaper than bailing out Wall Street:
“The Earth has a giant air-conditioning problem,” he said. “I’m proposing to put a thermostat on the planet.” He estimates that his design would cost only a few billion dollars to implement on a global scale. (Much less than $700 billion) |

Following The Twitter Hack Trail To DigitalGangster
One thing that didn't make a lot of sense about the 33 celebrity Twitter accounts hacked this morning - the messages left on the various accounts weren't consistent and were clearly written by different people with different agendas.
Fox News got “Breaking: Bill O Riley is gay," and Rick Sanchez from CNN got "I am high on crack right now might not be coming into work today." But other Twitter accounts had links to sites to generate affiliate revenue. Facebook's Twitter account had a message pointing to getlaid.info (now shut down), which redirected to a porn site ... |

Why 7? - Windows Vista Team Blog - The Windows Blog
There's been a lot of lively discussion since I confirmed yesterday that the official name for the next version of the Window client operating system will be "Windows 7" about how we got to the number "7." I'll say up front, that there are many ways to count the releases of Windows and it's been both a trip down memory lane and quite amusing to read all the different theories about how we got to the number "7." Anyway, the numbering we used is quite simple. The very first release of Windows was Windows 1.0, the ... |

Piezoelectric Road Produces Electricity From Traffic : Gas ...
Engineers have created a new type of road capable of turning the vibration caused by cars into electricity. The revolutionary new surface, created by engineers at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, uses piezoelectric crystals embedded in the asphalt to generate up to 400 kilowatts of energy from a 1 kilometer stretch, enough to run eight electric cars. Commenting on the innovation, a spokesman from the UK Environmental Transport Association said, “Many predict a massive shift to electric cars, and it may be the roads themselves that help provide some of the power needed.” |

Timing is everything. Take Flickr for example, a photo sharing service that successfully emerged in 2004 not just because of good design, technology, and leadership, but because of the coincidental mass adoption of camera phones and affordable high-quality digital cameras. A good idea becomes a great idea if its time has come.
So as we start [...]
