What is Socialbrowse?

Socialbrowse is the easiest way to share links and see what others are sharing. Socialbrowse is a browser extension that lets you share any link you read with a single click and automatically receive updates when people you like share interesting stuff.

top

Why is it better than other link sharing services?

Socialbrowse is better than any existing service for many reasons. Here are a few main ones:

top

How do I get the most out of Socialbrowse?

That's easy: just follow lots of people who seem interesting, and share lots of links that you find cool!

top

How do I register and login?

Just install the extension, restart your browser, and you'll see the sign up page. Just enter your email address and a password to register (or you can register from your exiting Google Account). Or enter your existing email/password to login. You'll only need to do this once, and from then on, you'll never have to log in again.

top

Why does my profile say "Anonymous?"

Since you don't have to register, we start you with the name "Anonymous." But we'd love for you to fill out your real info. That way other people can find you and they'll have a picture to associate with you. It only takes a few seconds to fill out your profile, so what are you waiting for?

top

How do I use socialbrowse on multiple computers?

On any additional computer you'd like to use install socialbrowse and when your browser restarts and it asks you to login or register, login with the same email address and password that you registered for the first computer.

top

How do I uninstall

If for some reason you are unhappy with Socialbrowse, you can uninstall it in your browser by selecting Tools->Add-ons and select Socialbrowse then click uninstall. But first we'd appreciate hearing what you didn't like and how we can make it better

top

How do I open and close the sidebar?

See those icons at the top of your browser. Just click this one:

top

How do I share a link?

Click the share icon at the top of your browser: . To select a category to share the link, click the little down array next to this icon and choose a category from the drop down menu.

top

Who sees links that I share?

When you share a link, it's broadcast to all of your fans - i.e. those people who are following you.

top

How do I see all the links I've shared?

Your profile shows all the links you've shared. By going to any other person's profile page, you can see the links they've shared as well.

top

How do I unshare a link?

By clicking the delete icon next to any link on your profile page it'll be unshared, and removed from any fans who received it. Otherwise use the "Unshare" selection from the share drop down button in the toolbar if you wish to unshare the page you're currently visiting.

top

How do I follow and unfollow people?

Click on any user's picture to go to their profile page. On the right side of the page you'll see a link to either follow or unfollow that person (if you're already following them).

top

What are social points?

Users collect social points depending on how social their shares become. Basically, if someone who is following you shares a link that you had previously shared you have made that link social and get a social point in the category that you shared it in. The social points will give you a good feel for someone's interests and activeness when finding people to follow. It also helps us in suggesting people for you to follow. The people with the most social points are placed on the leader's board.

top

What are the user icons I see in pages?

As you surf the web, we'll show you which links people you're following have shared, right in the page! That way you can quickly see if there's something good on that page that you might want to read. Hover over the icons to get a better look at who shared that link.

top

What are the shared link notices?

If you've got the sidebar closed, we'll let you know when a person you're following has shared a link by showing a small notification in the bottom corner of your browser. This will automatically fade away after a few seconds.

top

How do I control the notifications?

If you don't want to see the icons in the pages, or the share notifications, just go to Tools->Socialbrowse and uncheck the notifications.

top

What is the social feed?

Your social feed shows you a list of things that might be interesting to you. This includes links that people you are following have shared, notices of users who have become your fan, or updates when people you are following change their profile information. Your social feed is automatically updated in your sidebar, and you can view the full feed within your profile pages.

top

How do I control what is sent to my feed?

On your social feed page you can set your filters. Don't like politics? Then uncheck News->Politics and we won't send you any links related to politics.

top

How do I go to my profile?

Click the "profile" link at the top of your sidebar, otherwise just go to socialbrowse.com and it'll redirect you automatically.

My sidebar isn't showing anything even though it should. How do I fix it?

Socialbrowse is complex software that we try to make feel simple. But sometimes problems arise - we're working to prevent this, but in the meantime here are a few ways to fix things yourself:

  1. First try closing and reopening the sidebar. That works most of the time!
  2. Try restarting Firefox. These two solutions should work 90% of the time
  3. If all else fails, send us feedback. We usually respond in under an hour!
